2. ELK CITY, OKLAHOMA CAROUSEL: Huge Success!

Elk City's Centennial Carousel has been completed! It is up and running in its new home.

After nearly a year and a half of steady progress, we can all stand back and appreciate the value of a traditionally built, all-wood carousel. Elk City's carousel fits nicely into an American carousel tradition that goes back over one hundred years and extends, thanks to this carousel, well into the next century.

We here at Brass Ring are very thankful that the people of Elk City choose us to build their centennial carousel. We put our heart and soul into it, and it seems to have paid off. We expect this ride to be around when the townsfolk of Elk City celebrate their bicentennial.

As you can see in the latest photos, the city's custom designed carousel building is one of the finest carousel buildings we have ever seen. Such a fine building acts as the perfect frame for the jewel of a carousel located within. The architectural design beautifully combined wood, steel and glass to create a superb match with the carousel. We at Brass Ring feel comfortable in recommending this building design for any city park.

On its first day of operation, in just four hours, the carousel had over 2400 riders! It was a great pleasure to see so many people turn out to celebrate the opening of the new carousel, and we look forward to visiting Elk City again on the fourth of July.

3. SAN FRANCISCO ZOO CAROUSEL: Riders Return on Memorial Day

As we mentioned last month, the carousel reopened Memorial Day Weekend with 20 completely restored animals. The full, back-to-original-paint-scheme restoration of the remaining 32 animals continues and will take another year to complete.

Brass Ring Entertainment and the San Francisco Zoo have made a commitment to keep the carousel open to the public as much as possible during the restoration process, so next time you visit the zoo, drop on by the carousel building and take a spin, you won't regret it.

This spring, the inside of the carousel building went through a 100% lead abatement program. Once the paint was removed, a new coat of paint using the original paint scheme as supplied by carousel paint historian Rosa Regan and directed by Debra Lehane of the San Francisco Arts Commission. The original colors brighten the building significantly and add to the overall enjoyment of the carousel.

4. ALBANY, NEW YORK'S HISTORIC DARE CAROUSEL: HISTORIC NEWSPAPER ARTICLE FOUND!

Great news! Two 1915 newspaper articles that mention the Dare carousel were found by museum researcher John Scherer. The articles outline the schedule of the carousel and praises the carousel for the "clean amusement" it offers to the townsfolk. You can read the articles by following the link below.

We've also added more photos of the new carousel building in progress.

This carousel is scheduled to reopen in November this year. Don't miss it.

6. CAROUSEL.COM: FUN STUFF!

Many of you have written us requesting that we add something for the kids...we finally had time to do something about it.

We've added Fun Stuff! to Carousel.com. What is Fun Stuff!? Well, it is the beginning of a collection of online games and activities that adults and kids will love to use.

We've started with a super fun (and challenging) game called Mismatch. You are given two nearly identical photos of carousel horses...your job is to click on the 5 differences. Your reward? The sound of a carousel bell, virtual brass rings and the chance to advance to the next level. Give it a try...it's addictive.

The second super fun activity comes from one of Carousel.com's visitors, carousel artist Brandi Jasmine. It's an online coloring book complete with illustrations by Brandi. We were totally amazed by this one...it's your chance to paint a carousel animal online...no fuss, no muss.

So, if you've got some carousel stuff that you are dying to sell...feel free to add it to the growing list of carousel goods, and if your looking for carousel stuff, be sure to check here often.

9. OUT OF PRINT CAROUSEL BOOK BY MAURICE FRALEY (offer continues)

This is the same book we offered earlier this year...Maurice has sold quite a number, but there are some more still left. Proceeds go directly to the author.

This is the book that started it all. Maurice and Nina Fraley were the originators of taking carousel animals and making them fine art. Followed by their son Tobin, the Fraley family has made carousel art what it is. They have directly or indirectly influenced the restoration of nearly every american carousel piece.

This book has been out of print for years. Last year, Maurice found some new in the box at home and asked, "do you think anyone would want these?" This book is 53 pages of the finest carousel photography ever done. Maurice's expertise in knowing not only the manufacturer of the animal but also the era makes this book an excellent tool for every collector.

Here is your chance NOT to buy a used copy from eBay for a bunch of money, but to get a new, personally signed copy from the author to you for just $15.00 plus $3.50 shipping. There are not that many available and when they're gone, you're out of luck.

Follow the link below to order the book:
